Getting a job today, in this economy, is not that much different than five years ago. The differences today are that:

  • You may need to be more flexible in salary, position, etc.
  • If a bad position comes along, don’t take it out of desperation. That could waste months or years of your life when the right job had just been around the corner.
  • There are more employers today who will take advantage of applicants in this economy. There are also individuals who will do so. If you are interviewing and have a feeling that you’re not applying for a real position, move on to the next application for position.

There are many useful Websites such as Craigslist, Careerbuilder, Monster, Yahoo Hotjobs, and the list goes on. Beyond these Websites, having a polished resume and cover letter, and interviewing well, there are some other thoughts to consider.

  1. If you are thinking of trying a new line of work, it may be better to do so when the economy is better.
  2. When possible, pay people well and treat them in a positive way to keep the economy growing.
  3. Consider growing new niche areas and companies.
